The site now includes two pages under the “Watches / Warnings” heading that are marked TRC Support. TRC refers to Team Rubicon Canada, a veteran-led and veteran-enabled organization, that focuses on helping those that have been impacted by various forms of disaster. I’ve included the link to the website.
The support here takes two forms. First, there is the “big picture” or national view that works to identify emerging situations across the country that could eventually evolve into an emergency or disaster that TRC may be called upon to help. This is done through media monitoring that serves to help bring emerging information together. The second is a “more focused picture” that is intended to provide useful information to those preparing to work in certain environments and that may remain useful when they are on the ground.
Like anything else in disaster response, there is no 100% solution. Simply put, there’s not enough bubble-wrap. What can be done is to follow reasonably sound practices (such as gathering reasonably reliable and credible sources of information and looking at it critically) as decisions are made.
These sites do not purport to offer all the information that can be found about certain events nor do they purport to offer a “birds eye” view that shows everything. They are intended to put a couple more tools in the tool box.
